Join the S2BN for an evening panel discussion providing perspective on enhancing equity, diversity and inclusiveness (EDI) in STEM training. During this session, panelists will focus on key experiences promoting EDI as well as highlight the importance of diversity in STEM. 

Session Objectives:

• Understand the impact of diversity in STEM in helping foster innovation
• Discuss barriers to enhancing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in STEM
• Share insights from program and thought leaders on how to promote EDI in STEM training

Our panelists:

Nana (Hyung-Ran) Lee, PhD, Lead of Wellness, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion Committees, University of Toronto. 

Dr. Nana Lee is Director of Graduate Professional Development & Mentorship, Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. She brings her life experience as a woman of Asian heritage in academic and industry science and her interests & involvement in EDI initiatives in higher education to this discussion.

Mahadeo Sukhai, PhD, Head of Research and Chief Accessibility Officer, Canadian National Institute of the Blind

Dr. Mahadeo Sukhai is the world’s first congenitally blind biomedical research scientist. Mahadeo is the Director of Research and Chief Inclusion and Accessibility Officer for the CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind), having previously served as a research scientist at the University Health Network in Toronto. Dr. Sukhai is the Principal Investigator for and co-author of "Creating a Culture of Accessibility in the Sciences," a book based on his groundbreaking work on access to science within higher education, and serves as the principal investigator for national projects to understand the student experience for persons with disabilities, and to examine accessibility and inclusion within science education and healthcare.

I am the founder and President of Let’s Talk Science, an award-winning, national charitable organization that I started while completing my PhD in Physiology at Western University.
