Join the Guelph S2BN Chapter for a panel discussion featuring experienced Medical Affairs professionals in the pharmaceutical industry. During this session, panelists will describe how they transitioned from academia into Medical Affairs, and highlight the roles and responsibilities of their current position. These presentations will be followed by an interactive Q&A session with attendees...bring your questions!

Speakers: 

Jonathan Yau, PhD - Associate Director, Worldwide Medical Cardiovascular, Bristol Myers Squibb

Jonathan Yau, PhD is an Associate Director for Worldwide Medical Cardiovascular at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS). Jonathan has held various positions at BMS Canada. Most recently, he served as Cardiovascular Scientific Advisor wherein he provided scientific expertise and acted as medical lead for BMS’s cardiovascular portfolio. Jonathan’s experience spans field and home office roles within the cardiovascular therapeutic area. He also completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science at St. Michael’s Hospital, and received a Doctor of Philosophy from McMaster University.

Nicolle Petrik, PhD - Medical Science Liasion, Sanofi Genzyme

I have extensive experience as a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in various therapeutic areas.  I have been a MSL in Hematology and Immunology in Medical Affairs with Sanofi for the past four years.  I completed my Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences in Oncology and Post-doctorate fellowship in Pathobiology at the University of Guelph.  With this diverse background,  I started my career in Industry as a Medical Information Associate at Bayer for a 1-year contract, which led me to a field-based MSL role at Allergan (now Abbvie) in Gastroenterology before transitioning to my current role at Sanofi.  I have greatly enjoyed my role as a MSL and bringing my scientific background to my interactions with Canadian Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs).

Patrick Turnbull, PhD - Medical Science Liasion, GSK Oncology

Patrick Turnbull completed his PhD in cancer metabolism at York University under the supervision of Dr. Chris Perry. He was the first medical science liaison (MSL) hired for GSK Oncology and has worked for the past several years as an MSL for GSK Oncology focusing on breast and gynecologic cancers.
